What's new in the browser and Windows app

Windows version 2.0.0

Released September 10, 2026. For Windows 10 or 11 on an x64 PC. No Python, Adobe Acrobat, account, or API key required.

The download includes OCR resources and a local image-description model, so it is larger than the previous Windows version.

What the Windows app includes

  • Guided PDF, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel checks and repairs, with plain-language steps and human-review records.
  • Mixed-folder review and downloadable bundles of document copies and automated reports.
  • Image and chart description coaching, table guidance, PDF form labels, and HTML reading-copy drafts.
  • Offline OCR resources for English, Spanish, French, and German, plus a bundled on-device AI model for draft image descriptions.
  • Native Office-to-PDF conversion and PDF batch tools in the Desktop tools menu. The corresponding Microsoft Office application must be installed for conversion.

Automatic fixes and AI suggestions still need your review. Check the finished document in its intended reader and use an independent PDF validator where appropriate. The native tools report when veraPDF is unavailable.

Install or update

  1. Run the Windows installer and follow its prompts. Or extract the portable ZIP and keep its files together.
  2. Open Accessibility Remediator. Choose PDF, Office, or folder review.
  3. Use the Desktop tools menu for native conversion. Optional PDF import can ask you to confirm a layout-changing conversion in Word.
  4. Download your reviewed documents and reports before closing the guided workspace.

Coming from version 1.13? Your old app does not update itself. Keep your existing document outputs and install this version, or extract the new ZIP into a separate folder.

This release is not code-signed, so Windows may show an unrecognized-publisher message. The release page provides SHA-256 checksums for verifying your download.

Your documents stay local

The guided Windows workspace blocks external requests and keeps document work in temporary memory. It does not save or restore your session. Only explicit downloads create output copies. Native conversion tools write copies and reports to your selected output folder.

Bundled app resources are stored on your PC. Operating-system memory, Office’s own temporary files, and files you choose to save are outside the guided workspace’s privacy controls.
